Colony will have the country's, and perhaps the world's largest Ganesh idol this year. What's more, the organisers are ensuring that the idol is completely eco-friendly. Arrangements are on in full swing to ready the idol for the festival, which will begin on September 1. The organisers, Sampat Vinayaka Visakha Youth Association (SVVYA), have selected A.S. Raja Grounds at M.V.P Colony here to install the idol. They are confident that at 94 feet, their idol would break all existing records. Speaking to this newspaper, the SVVYA president, Mr Thummala Jagadeesh Reddy, said that they were investing nearly Rs.11 lakh to make the eco-friendly idol. A group of skilled artisans from West Bengal was specially invited to design the idol, works on which had started 35 days back. The idol will be made of clay, specially brought from Kolkata, dry-grass and eco-friendly water-based colours, he said, adding that arrangements are being made to dissolve the idol at the pandal itself on September 21. "Around 20 youths from various political parties formed the Association and dreamed to make the world's biggest Ganesh idol. As on Tuesday, nearly 40 per cent of the work is over, and they want to disclose the details of the venture to the public and the press on August 20," Mr Reddy added. Other than the mammoth idol, Mr Reddy said that a 2,500-kg laddu was also being prepared by a sweet manufacturer from Tapeswaram in East Godavari. However, when contacted, Mr P.V.V.S Mallikarjuna Rao from East Godavari, who was consulted to prepare the giant laddu, said that the SVVYA had not yet confirmed about the laddu. |
